Dec 24, Farrah rated it it was amazing. I'm surprised by how shockingly GOOD this book is! It follows forensic psychologist Connie, who's teamed up with Detective Baarda to locate kidnap victim Elspeth.

Elspeth's been taken by mentally ill Fergus and it's a race against time to save her. To me that premise isn't unique. I think I've read four books this year where a bad guy keeps a woman prisoner.

That's why I wasn't expecting to be WOWed with this one. I was wrong. These are my reasons for why it deserve I'm surprised by how shockingly GOOD this book is!

These are my reasons for why it deserves five stars. Not the case here. Connie's a psychologist and it shows all throughout the book.

She's often analyzing people's behavior. There was a couple of times I thought the author was adding things to impress me with her knowledge of the subject, but that was fine with me because I WAS impressed.

A difficult age for an author to write as. The kid usually sounds like an immature adult or an annoying child but here it was convincing.

I was genuinely scared. He has an actual diagnosis and his behaviour realistically follows the symptoms of his condition. Field's is even ballsy enough to write from his POV at times and it's brilliant.

To me, in a crowd of similar books this one stands out! View all 53 comments. Rose Glad you enjoyed this one Farrah 13 hours, 17 min ago.

Luna great review Farrah. I already had this on my radar but a ringing endorsement from you carries so much weight with me!

Jan 14, Kaceey rated it really liked it Shelves: netgalley , buddy-read. Anyone familiar with my taste in books knows I prefer my thrillers a bit on the darker side.

Careful what you wish for…this is one over-the-top, wicked read! The Shadow knows. What is that you may ask? Connie is a forensic psychologist brought in from the US to aid the local Scotland police.

But yet I loved her! Can her expertise help find The Shadow Man before time runs out? This was my first read from Helen Fields and jumped at the chance to read this one.

I am thoroughly hooked and planning to go back and read her series which looks equally chilling! A buddy read with Susanne that left us in opposite sides of the bookshelf!

But that made it even more fun to read! Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK View all 55 comments. Sue Absolutely agree! Dark Jan 31, PM. Kaceey Sue wrote: "Absolutely agree!

Dark" Right!? But so good! Jan 27, Debra rated it really liked it Shelves: netgalley. To what end? What is he collecting them for? What is his master plan?

Elspeth is taken first, then Meggy and finally Xavier. Why them? He takes them but keeps them Man, I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was driving the Shadow Man.

He gives us clues, little glimpses but in the end it all comes together in t 3. He gives us clues, little glimpses but in the end it all comes together in that perfect "aha" moment.

Plus, that house! It had me stretching my mind muscles to try and figure it out. It felt like a maze, levels, things under the floors, etc. I thought, he must have them in the house, but then they say is he coming up?

Made me think of the movie "The People under the Stairs" Not the storyline but the house. The best part of the book was Connie Woolwine, an American forensic psychologist.

A woman after my own heart. I loved her. She is smart, crafty and determined. She has a unique way of looking at things and is soon on the hunt.

Her scenes and those with Brodie Baarda, a London detective, are what really made the book for me. There were times in the book, that my attention wavered, and I would lose interest but not her parts.

I loved that the Author had both readers and Connie learning things about the Shadow man at the same time. Of course, we do know what is happening to the three kidnapped victims and that makes it fun to watch Connie and Baarda try and find them.

I waivered back and forth with my rating as there were times my attention lagged. There were parts that were slow - but I am glad I hung in there as the ending makes up for it.

I hope to see Connie and possibly Baarda in future books putting that out there with fingers crossed hoping and wishing.

There was a part at the end that had me gasp out loud. I do not do eye stuff, just saying. My advice is if this gets slow for you or does not seem to be working in the beginning, hang in there.

It all comes together in the end. The killer is not like others who have read before. When you learn everything you learn about him, will your thoughts on him change?

Will it all make sense? Intriguing indeed. Overall, an enjoyable read that has me wanting more of Connie Woolwine. Thank you to Avon Books UK and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The interaction between them works so well, Connie is straight talking, shoot from the lips and Baarda is ever polite but there is sharp good humour between them which works really well and relieves tension.

Thankfully the pace alters and gives you time to catch your breath before your head explodes and then builds up again. I love the ultimate finale with Connie and Baarda and I sincerely hope that the author does not confine them to a one off.

Overall, I think you can tell I think this book is good! It has some very original and creative elements that add an extra dimension to the storyline.

This is Helen Fields best book so far in my opinion. Highly recommended. With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Avon Books for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Rogers hacks into the MK Ultra program and puts an end to the project, and Jack is reunited with Amanda. Later, Ambassador Cochran gives Jack a passport to give to Anya so she can go to America.

After Jack and Amanda get back to the US, Jack gets Amanda a horse for being so brave in Romania. When the project first came about, the title was Shadows on the Sun , it was being written by Bey Logan writer for several Jackie Chan projects and also had an entirely different plot.

The original story was a period piece with Seagal as an intelligence officer who runs a medical clinic in Japan after World War II.

By September , however, Logan was no longer involved, and the script was being penned by Joe Halpin author of several Seagal features in the mids, including Submerged , Into the Sun , and Today You Die.

It was re-titled Shadows of the Past , and the plot assumed its current form. These changes were met with disappointment from some fans, who were excited to see Seagal star in a film that was a departure from the action movies he had done in recent years.

The film is set in Bucharest , Romania , and was filmed there in 49 days from July 13 to August 31, Imelda Staunton, a year after her Academy Award -nominated performance in Vera Drake , appears in the film as Ambassador Cochran.

She explained to the BBC 's Mark Lawson that she filmed for two days, but that Seagal did not film any reverses with her, resulting in her filming all her scenes with Seagal's stand-in and a Romanian film student, who would read Seagal's dialogue off-camera.

She claims she did the film for money, and as a chance to portray a character with an American Accent. David Johnson of DVD Verdict called the film "a generic action film with an uninvolving plot, stilted action sequences, [and] some shabby green screen work, predictable twists," adding: "Seagal doesn't distinguish himself from any other character he's ever played and there's not enough interesting stuff happening on the periphery to distract us.

Andrew Hosack of JoBlo said, "The writing, story, action, and acting are all well below par," adding: "It boggles the mind how anyone remotely sensible would invest time and money in something like this.

DVD was released in Region 1 in the United States on June 6, , and also Region 2 in the United Kingdom on 30 October , it was distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

After you finish the picture, no matter how good or bad it is, scratch out the eyes with the same pencil. Make it as thick and dark as possible, make sure the eyes are completely blotted out and cannot be seen.

Added with this, find any piece of clothing that you have worn for at least a month or so. If is something that comes in pairs, use both.

Third and finally, acquire 12 identical candles. Now that you have obtained all necessary items, it is time to begin the ritual.

Start by going into the selected room and measuring out a space wide enough to perform with. The best way to test is to stick your arms out to your side and spin in a circle.

If you hit nothing or nothing gets in the way, you have enough room. It is okay before you begin to have light in the room to see what you are doing.

Begin placing your candles in the circle space you measured out, each spread out equally apart, and once they have been set, light them all up.

Now, close off any light to the room; make the room entirely sectioned off to just itself with no outside connection. Go to your circle of candles and, using the ink, put out the fire on every other candle.

For better reference, imagine the candles like a clock, and put out the ones placed at the 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 spots. If at any moment you wish to back out, simply light up one of the dead candles.

However, whatever you do, DO NOT have more candles out than on. These candles are your one safety net, and if you make a mistake, it will not end well.

Continuing forward, make sure you have your gloves and socks both on as an added layer of protection. Even with the candle circle, it is very important you have a layer of clothing as well.

Take the preselected article of clothing you wish to use, set it in the middle of the circle taking heed not to distort or destroy the circle, and stain it with the remainder of your ink.

Following that, take up your sharp object and cut a diagonal line from the top to the bottom. Once you have done that, slip in the drawing you had made from earlier into the clothing.

If it is too small to fit inside, simply lay the drawing on top.
